Ep. 40: Haunted Bar bucket List
Gina (00:11)
Welcome to I Scream You Scream. I'm Gina.
Kathryn (00:14)
And I'm Kathryn
Gina (00:15)
And for the month of July, we're telling stories about bars while we have some boozy ice cream. Except for today, because it's criminally hot outside and the thought of eating dairy just makes me want to melt into the abyss. But we're still drinking. So quick reminder, if you want to help us out, you can leave us a five star review or share this episode with a friend. And maybe that way we won't be cursed to dwell in hell for all of eternity. don't know. Anyway, grab a spoon, grab a cup of your favorite thing, and let's dig in.
Kathryn (00:23)
Yeah. I'm drinking a Shirley Temple because it's early in the day and I'm already tired so I thought it was a little dangerous to do a full drink.
Gina (00:46)
So, oh my God. Shirley temples always make me think of you, because that was your kid drink, wasn't it?
Kathryn (01:00)
of course. Yeah, that's what I would drink at the bar with my mom up north. One way to go. Yeah, at the supper club. That was my supper club drink.
Gina (01:06)
Up north. I am drinking my wine that I got with my new wine subscription because through my job, it was one of those like for only $10, you can get three bottles of wine for your first month subscription or whatever. So I did that and I'm working my way through it I'm really enjoying it so far.
Kathryn (01:15)
Yes!
Mm-hmm.
I love that. I had a wine subscription when I lived in Chicago, but I don't think I can get one in Wisconsin. There's some law that you can't have alcohol shipped.
Gina (01:37)
Mm-mm.
I remember that from when I lived there, yeah.
Kathryn (01:40)
Which is frustrating. Yes. Yeah, it's very frustrating. It's because it would destroy local economies here. If you didn't get your domestic Wisconsin beer.
Gina (01:44)
Yeah, for Wisconsin, like come on.
Yeah. ⁓
That's a good point. So this week I went on a business trip and I was taking my Uber back to the train station to go home and the Uber driver really fascinated with me being American so he was asking me about Wisconsin and I was very hungover. So I probably didn't give the best explanation. I was like, it's where the cheese and the beer comes from. And he was like, oh, that sounds like so much fun. I was like, yeah.
Kathryn (02:10)
Thanks.
It is, it's a good time.
Gina (02:19)
It's so much fun.
Let’s rate our ice cream!
I know that we are not technically eating ice cream today, but do you want to rate the drinks that we had this month anyway?
Kathryn (02:29)
I do and I'm kind of conflicted. you know what you're rating yours? I don't want to just... Okay. Do you want to go first or do want me to go first?
Gina (02:34)
I do. I can go first. Mine's easy. Mine gets a five out of five. I fucking love grasshoppers. Like sweet, creamy, minty, refreshing, best drink ever.
Kathryn (02:41)
Okay, yeah, I know you do. Good. I was gonna say, yeah, yours is quick and dirty. That's why I feel bad because I enjoyed the nostalgia of mine. Not like the champagne part, but just rainbow sugar in the summer is just so nostalgic. But I gotta say, I really wish I had gotten different bubbles because it wasn't that great. I'm not gonna lie. I wanna say it's like a three, 3.5 for me.
Gina (02:47)
No notes. That's it.
That's such a bummer because
Kathryn (03:16)
That day it was flat kind of just ruined it for me. It smelled good, it tasted good. But also I almost wonder if I had put a little something else with it because it was almost like I had to suffer through the bubbles to get to the ice cream part, you know? So maybe if it had been more mixed or if it had been like a punch where I, you know.
Gina (03:19)
The concept is so good. Yeah, Like a slushy or something?
Kathryn (03:43)
Did something else, yeah, maybe next time I'll put some kind of fruit juice or something with it. So it wasn't just champagne and ice cream, but that was rough.
Gina (03:54)
I guess we just gotta keep trying. no. We will not rest.
Kathryn (03:56)
I was gonna say we just gotta keep doing our research. But yeah, so yeah, we'll find it.
We'll find it.
Gina (04:04)
I have a very special shout out to give.
Kathryn (04:07)
You do? I'm so excited about this.
Gina (04:10)
To my cousin Eric, so yay Eric. So my family came to visit just this last week. Wow, it feels like longer ago.
Kathryn (04:12)
Yay!
Gina (04:19)
And on the first night out to dinner, you know, they were all super jet lagged, understandably, because it's a super long flight. And Eric and I got to talking about the podcast and it turns out he's listened to every single episode. ⁓ And yeah, he asked some really lovely questions about it what the experience has been like making it. And it just, meant a lot to me. It was really nice. So yeah, just to be able to share that with a family member was really cool. So shout out to Eric.
Kathryn (04:30)
Yay!
Gina (04:44)
Thank you for listening. hope you have a good day at work today because I think he listens to us on the way to work.
Kathryn (04:50)
And if any other family members secretly listen to us, please let us know. I know some people do, but...
I've noticed just whenever I check the data, there are some people in towns that I suspect are family members, but I, but they've never told me they listen. So either it's family or just a coincidence. So let us know if you're listening.
Gina (05:13)
Speaking of family members listening, so do you remember in one of the Satanic Panic episodes, I think it might have been the first one, I was telling you about the reason why my mom hates Enya because my dad put it on when she was in labor. So my mom texted me the other day and she was like, I'm listening to your Enya episode and you are absolutely, not Enya, was listening to your Satanic Panic episode and you are absolutely correct about why I hate Enya. So I was right, I think we did.
Kathryn (05:23)
yeah! Did we unlock something for her? She was like, no. ⁓
My gosh. Well, I'm so sorry that that story is true, but I'm happy that we have confirmation. Poor Enya. Yeah. Happy birthday to your mother. Was that your birth or was that Maddy's Okay. Okay. So first, very first one. All right. Yeah, that's traumatic.
Gina (05:46)
Yeah, shout out to my mom too. And your mom, all the moms.
Because Maddy’s my sister's, yeah. yeah. I think I was born too quickly for music, perhaps. No, no, I don't think any, although I don't know, maybe I'm wrong.
Kathryn (06:06)
No playlists for Gina.
We gotta be careful because my mom's about to email us with my birth story.
Gina (06:12)
My God, please email me with Kathryn's birth story, please. I want to know. I'm, yeah, absolutely. I didn't write it down though, so I don't remember.
Kathryn (06:20)
I'm pretty sure you've heard it. You've been around while she, she tells it every birthday. Yeah, okay, yes. Mom, if you're listening, which I know you are, please don't, I'm begging you. We'll do a bonus episode where we'll have the moms on and they can just get drunk and tell their birth stories. Wait, are we doing that? ⁓ my God.
Gina (06:32)
Hahaha!
my god, that would be so much fun if we had our moms on.Kathryn (06:43)
I started that sentence totally kidding him by the end. I'm 100 % serious. I'm saying it on the podcast right now. So we have to do it now. We'll do a bonus episode. I've never met your mother, which I don't think is true emotionally because I feel like I've astral projected to you guys whenever you're together because I feel like I've met her many times, but I haven't.
Gina (06:48)
Okay. I think we have to do it now. agree. would love... Because our moms have never met. You've still never met my mom. She feels the same way about you.
Kathryn (07:10)
We'll do something.
Intro to our bucket lists
Gina (07:13)
Should we talk about today's episode since it's a little bit... Me too. So today, instead of just talking about one bar, because it's our 40th episode, which is kind of a mini milestone, we're gonna celebrate it by talking about lots of different bars. To be a little bit more specific, Kathryn and I have each put together our top three haunted bars.
Kathryn (07:14)
Yeah, I was gonna say we'll do that eventually, but let's get into today. I'm excited for today. I'm so excited for today.
Gina (07:38)
that are on our respective bucket lists. So we're gonna take turns telling you a little bit more about these places, and then at the end, we're gonna guess how they rank on each other's lists. So the three that Kathryn talks about, I'm gonna guess what her number one, number two, number three is, and vice versa. And number one is the one you most want to go to. I should probably make that clear. So yeah.
Kathryn (07:57)
Yeah. I'm excited.
This was like, I'm still, I still think I'm deciding between two, but I know what my number one is. So yeah. I think as I read, as I tell my stories, I think it's going to click in my heart, which one is the number two and number three. Yeah. Cool. Do you want to just happen? I don't know. We didn't plan any seamless anything. Who's going first?
Gina (08:07)
I know what my number one is too. I feel like as long as we have that, we'll be okay. Yep. Agreed. Agreed. Let's hop in. I wish we could play rock, scissors, but I guess it's hard when you're...
Kathryn (08:29)
It's delayed.
Gina (08:30)
Yeah, it's delayed. Do you want to gamify it? We could do like a random number generator and whoever's closest. Okay.
Kathryn (08:34)
I kind of do, it was one of those things where like it does not matter, I was just gonna say I can just pick if you want me to, but I kind of want to make a game out of it.
Gina (08:41)
Okay, random number generator. Random.org, true random number service. ⁓ good.
Kathryn (08:48)
Not like those fake random number services out there. Yep, they'll getcha. Yep. Yeah, they'll get you every time.
Gina (08:51)
You just, you see those all the time. They just come out with, you know, numbers like eleventy seven, just shit that doesn't exist.
I just need to verify that I am a human real quick.
Kathryn (09:03)
Alright, good luck.
Gina (09:04)
I did. I got caught by a website earlier today. It was like, we think you're a robot, so you're not allowed on here. I just straight up got blocked by it. didn't even give me like a reCAPTCHA thing. It just was like, no, you're suspicious. You're not allowed. It was one of the, actually the pubs I'm going to be talking about. It was one of their websites.
Kathryn (09:09)
Wait, what, really?
What's... what's it was?
Wait, that's kind of cool. Okay, okay.
Gina (09:22)
⁓ I'll tell you when I get there. It's very funny. Okay, sorry, it's really doing its best to verify that I'm a human.
Kathryn (09:29)
Damn.
Gina (09:29)
Okay, I'm gonna do it on my phone. This isn't working. I accidentally typed random number gerbester.
Kathryn (09:35)
What is gerbester?
Gina (09:38)
I don't know. All right, so pick a number between one and 10. Whoever is the closest has to go first, or gets to go first, I guess I should say. This is a blessing.
Kathryn (09:44)
Okay.
Is it closest without going over or are we just doing closest? I don't care either way. Just closest? Okay.
Gina (09:51)
Just closest, just closest. Okay. I'm going to pick three.
Kathryn (09:59)
Damn, I was gonna pick three. I'm gonna pick four.
Gina (10:01)
Ha ha ha ha!
The odds are stacked against you, my friend. ⁓ it's four. Yay. Kathryn wins. You get to go first.
The White Horse Tavern in Rhode Island
Kathryn (10:11)
Okay, now I'm all unprepared. Okay, so the first one that I'm going to talk about is the White Horse Tavern in Newport, Rhode Island. fun fact, we both originally had this on our list, but Gina graciously let me have it because I have very few.
Gina (10:24)
Mm-hmm.
Kathryn (10:28)
The original two-story colonial home was built in 1652 and then in 1673 it came under ownership of pirate William May. I know! I know I wanted to start with the pirate one for you. So he used it to open a tavern. It was originally just a single family home in Rhode Island but then he turned it into a tavern.
Gina (10:39)
What? Okay.
Kathryn (10:55)
It also operated as a boarding house, meeting place, city council, very similar to the bars that you've mentioned in the past. Because remember, this was before America was America. These are all British guys. ⁓ It is, we love it. Yeah, exactly. We love to use bars for everything. It is the oldest operating restaurant in the United States. And according to multiple sources, which I thought this was fake at first,
Gina (11:06)
Mm-hmm. They love a multi-purpose building.
Kathryn (11:22)
roughly the 10th oldest in the world. Isn't that wild? 1652, doesn't that? Or maybe 60s? Yeah. Yeah.
Gina (11:25)
What? I'm shocked by that. Well, I mean, guess that is old,
but I'm just shocked that that's in America.
Kathryn (11:33)
Me too, but it's because it's the, I think it's the oldest, like, I don't want to say original structure because the structure was rebuilt but on the same property and it has continually served as a restaurant ever since then. So I think that's it, like the longest like running. And you can fact check that I did multiple sources, but who knows, there's going to be someone who is like one opened in 1672 in 10 months or whatever. Yeah, exactly.
Gina (11:48)
Okay. I trust you. Actually.
Kathryn (12:03)
Um, as one of the oldest operating restaurants in the world, especially one that also operated as a boarding house. Obviously there have been countless stories of spirits passing through. One of the most commonly talked about hauntings at the White Horse is that of an elderly colonial gentleman who is said to hang out near the fireplaces and in the mirrors in the dining room, which I don't love. I don't like a mirror ghost. Yeah. And
Gina (12:27)
oooo ⁓
Kathryn (12:31)
I hate this one because it is said that he purposely startles female guests, which it's... I don't like it. There also seems to be a lot of residual hauntings. There are reports of patrons hearing faint disembodied sobs from a little girl near the second floor restroom. Also hate a crying child, both living and from the beyond.
Gina (12:38)
That's rude.
Mm-mm.
My god.
Kathryn (12:57)
And people will often feel sudden shoulder taps, like someone's like tapping them on the shoulder, but then they turn around and no one's there. And you can also hear heavy footsteps in rooms that no one is in. And there've been numerous reports of dishes and glasses shifting around on the table or even floating above the tables on their own, like someone's like picking them up. I know, I know, I know.
Gina (13:20)
That's fucking cool.
Kathryn (13:24)
That's like a classic restaurant or bar haunting. Yeah. And then, you know, obviously a lot of people think the main haunter, particularly the more aggressive ones, is that of William May, the pirate. I think there's likely a ton of different spirits there. mean, so many, it was a boarding house. It operated as so many different things and just bars in general are super haunted. So I think there's a lot of spirits there, but people do.
Gina (13:28)
Mm-hmm.
Kathryn (13:50)
Like to say that William May is still keeping tabs on the tavern all these years later.
Gina (13:57)
Hell yeah. Pirate bar, I'm into that. Yeah, that's fun. Fuck yes. Okay, cool. Is that your first one done? Okay, okay, okay. Mirrors, floating glasses, pirate, white horse. I will remember this. I actually have like a little piece of paper where I'm taking. Yeah. Okay.
Kathryn (13:58)
Yeah, that's a fun one. Pyrobar, yeah.
That's first one done, yep. I know I just saw you that's your note-taking phase. I need my notes. I need to do that too. Hold on. I
gotta do it on paper
I don't have my notebook near me right now. I'll use my notes app. Like a tool. Alright.
The Ancient Ram Inn in England
Gina (14:28)
Cool. Yeah.
All right, so let me scroll to the top of my doc. I was at the bottom. Okay. So my first bucket list pub is the Ancient Ram Inn. Are you ready for this town name? It's really British. Wooden Under Edge, England. And this place is almost 900 years old. I think it clocks in at 880.
Kathryn (14:33)
I'm ready for you.
Cool.
My God.
Gina (14:59)
Wildly fucking old. It's thought to have been originally built to house laborers who were working on the nearby church before eventually becoming a priest's house. And then it turned into an inn slash Actually, it's not technically a pub anymore. The Ancient Ram Inn hasn't served drinks since 1968. But it's now a hotspot for paranormal enthusiasts.
Kathryn (15:01)
That is so old.
Gina (15:21)
from all around the world. And you can still spend the night there if you dare. Among the very many rumors about this pub, people say that it stands on the site of an old pagan burial ground and may have been used as a site for human sacrifice. Weird.
Kathryn (15:27)
Ooh, love that.
Gina (15:39)
Sorry, I'm gonna wait till this ambulance has passed.
Kathryn (15:39)
⁓
I was going to say was that you or me, but it's definitely you. That's okay. Yeah, no, it's fine.
Gina (15:43)
It's me. It's too hot to not have my windows open, so it's...
It's also commonly believed to sit at the intersection of two ley lines, which if you haven't heard of ley lines before, they're basically lines stretching all around the world that are characterized by intense spiritual activity. I'm like 95 % sure I got that definition right. Yes, witch queen? Okay, cool, yes.
Kathryn (15:49)
Okay.
I'm obsessed with ley lines. Yes, it's just they're
spooky lines. We'll talk about ley lines sometimes. I'm obsessed with ley lines. Yes. They're bizarre. Yeah. Yeah, for sure.
Gina (16:10)
Yeah, I wanna learn more about ley lines. So yeah, maybe we'll do like an episode or something about ley lines. sweet. ⁓
And apparently, this is really interesting, the ancient Ram Inn shares a ley line with Stonehenge.
Kathryn (16:22)
Wait, I've heard of this place. Yes, yes, yes.
Gina (16:24)
Have you heard of it? my gosh, yes, okay, sweet. So
the energy here is apparently just filled with a sense of dread. One person who visited said, the atmosphere was awful. I can only describe it as pure filth, dark and heavy.
Kathryn (16:42)
Can you imagine getting that Google review on your restaurant if... Evil lives here. ⁓ my gosh, that's so sad.
Gina (16:44)
Right? One star, pure filth. And we have another quote. So at one point, the Bishop of Gloucester tried to exercise the inn. This is like a local legend. And after he failed to do so, he said, quote, it was the most evil place I have ever had the misfortune to visit.
Kathryn (16:58)
Mm-hmm.
That's scary.
Gina (17:08)
Creepy, spooky, and scary. Over the years, guests and investigators have reported encounters with more than 20 different spirits, and you can mainly categorize those spirits by the rooms that they haunt at the inn. ⁓ The bishop's room is considered easily the most haunted one. Reports include seeing a cavalier-style ghost pacing around the room in his armor, and at night, people also claim that they hear the screams of a man who was killed
Kathryn (17:22)
Okay.
Gina (17:36)
by having his head held in the fireplace while it was lit.
Kathryn (17:40)
⁓ that's barbaric. yikes.
Gina (17:41)
Yeah, fucking rough. And in this same room, people have also reported spending the night with incubi and succubi. So there's some lustful spirits in that room as well, which is kind of fun because it's the bishop's room. So it's like, you know, a little bit fuck you, God. There's I think you might like this one. There is a room called the witch's room. Yes, it does have kind of a sad
Kathryn (17:52)
Okay, interesting. Yeah.
Yes. Yeah, immediately yes.
Gina (18:04)
backstory though back in the 16th century this room was allegedly the hiding place for a woman who was accused of witchcraft before she was eventually captured and burned at the stake and Guests claim that her spirit and the spirit of her black cat can still be seen and often appear at the bedside of guests watching as they sleep
Yeah, black cat. I got excited about the cat ghost. I know you love an animal ghost.
Kathryn (18:28)
that's spooky. Yeah.
I love... Remember we had a cat ghost at our last apartment? Do remember that?
Gina (18:35)
My god,
Kathryn (18:37)
Yeah, I'll tell that story
sometime. Ugh, I love an animal ghost, you know that.
Gina (18:42)
Same, yeah. And the attic is haunted as well, which is extra terrifying because attics are scary. Basically, years and years and years and millions of years ago, the innkeeper's daughter is said to have been murdered in the attic. And guests often report the sounds of something heavy being dragged across the floor above them, despite no one being up there. More generally, though, there is just kind of paranormal weirdness all over the building. It's referred to as one of the most one of, if not the most common haunted sites in the UK. I've had half a glass of wine and I'm fucking lit right now. It's so hot. But yeah, doors and windows will close and open of their own accord. Furniture moves around without anyone touching it. And you often see shadowy figures in the background.
Kathryn (19:12)
It's hot. It's because it's hot. That's why.
Gina (19:31)
of your photographs. And possibly the scariest thing to me is there's a staircase in the ancient Rams in and people report being like thrown or pushed up the stairs by ghosts. Yeah. So that's my first one. Very scary, but it's on my list because I want to be braver. And I feel like it would be an important place for me to go on that journey.
Kathryn (19:32)
⁓
Ooh. That's scary. Yeah, that's scary.
And remind me the name of that one. It's the Ram, Ancient Ram Inn. I was going to write Ram's Head Inn, Ancient Ram's. Yeah, there must, there's gotta be, I think there's something called that.
Gina (19:56)
It's the Ancient Ram Inn.
That's what I keep wanting to say too.
Well, they do have a lot of rams’ heads mounted on the wall, I think. So your intuition is right.
Kathryn (20:12)
Yeah, they better. The Rams head bar. Okay. Let me write my notes. Okay. That sounds scary. That sounds intense. Let me write that down. Intense. Okay. Moving on.
Gina (20:23)
huh. I know. INTENSE.
Lafitte’s Blacksmith Shop in Louisiana
Kathryn (20:34)
See, this is why I need my physical note, because then can just write like a scribble and I'll know what it means. This time I actually have to like type it in. Yeah. All right. Are you ready for number two? Well, number two for me. So my second one, I'm accidentally sticking with the theme here. Lafitte's blacksmith shop bar in New Orleans, Louisiana. Yes. Yes. So Lafitte's was built in the early 1700s and...
Gina (20:40)
That's what I've been scribbling, yeah.
I'm ready.
Yes! Okay, I've heard of this one, yes.
Kathryn (21:02)
is one of the oldest original buildings in New Orleans. It was also similar to the White Horse. It was originally a private residence. It was originally built for that. Then it turned into a blacksmith's shop. And then eventually it turned into the bar that it is today. One of the most famous patrons of the building who is said to have stuck around is a man named Jean Lafitte.
A legendary pirate from the 1800s. Another pirate bar. We accidentally changed themes to haunted pirate bars. Okay. We absolutely will. Don't worry. 100%. That's all for you. It's funny that these two are mine because you're the pirate queen. We kind of... Wait, did we accidentally...
Gina (21:28)
Hey-o! Fuck yeah, man. I love this episode.
We should do a pirate month.
And I picked the scariest one, which is a Kathryn thing.
Kathryn (21:56)
choose ones the other one will like. I feel like we kind of did that.
Gina (21:58)
I think we had a
subconscious Freaky Friday moment.
Kathryn (22:02)
I think we both were like, this is where we would like to go with the other person because the other person will enjoy this. I think that's what it is. Yeah, obviously. I would never go to any of these places without you. Not of my own volition, maybe against my will, but I would be sad the whole time if it was against my will. ⁓ Okay, so it's said that Jean and his brother Pierre would use this building when...
Gina (22:08)
100%, yeah. I did picture going to all these places with you, just so you know. That's what my plan is.
Kathryn (22:29)
It was a blacksmith shop as a front for smuggling the shit that they stole as pirates. They're pirated wares, if you will. Current present day living patrons of the bar often claim to see Jean Lafitte appear as a shadowy figure hovering around the fireplace, which I think is true for my last one as well. The pirates just love the fire. don't know. Destruction and warmth? I don't know what it is with pirates and fire.
Gina (22:35)
Nice.
Mm-hmm.
I was thinking like meditative, you know, they can stare at the fire and think about…
Kathryn (22:57)
⁓ got it. That too, as they plot their destruction So he is said to be a quiet presence. Contrary to everything I just said, he's he often is said to disappear when approached or looked at, like acknowledged, I guess I should say in any way. He just like whoop.
Gina (23:02)
Yeah.
I relate to that so hard.
Kathryn (23:18)
And he doesn't really bother anyone. He just kind of observes. Like his presence is known and acknowledged and he doesn't really mess with people often experience cold spots and phantom footsteps and disembodied whispers that can be heard late into the night, even after people have left. Like bar will be empty and people can hear people whispering. Yeah, isn't spooky? A whisper is just innately spooky to me.
Gina (23:36)
⁓
I like
Kathryn (23:43)
You know, yeah. Yeah.
Gina (23:43)
it. I want to eavesdrop on that shit.
Kathryn (23:46)
Some guests have even reported seeing, I love to this bit, they've reported seeing candles relighting themselves after they've been blown out. Yeah, isn't that cool?
⁓
Okay, so this is the grand finale of this one. I love this one, but I also kind of hate it. There's the infamous story of the quote, woman in black, which I don't think we've had yet. ⁓ Yeah, so another classic trope, which I love, we'll definitely discuss in more in depth someday. She often appears near the piano in the back room.
Gina (24:14)
Yes! No, we haven't.
Kathryn (24:26)
Patrons report a sense of sadness or melancholia, which is the part that I hate when they see her. And as the legend goes, it is suspected that she's the ghost of a woman who died by suicide in the building after being abandoned by her lover.
Gina (24:42)
fuck that.
Kathryn (24:44)
Sad, I know, right? So that's Jean Lafitte's blacksmith shop bar. Longest name ever. Yeah.
The Skirrid Mountain Inn in Wales
Gina (24:50)
Wow, I love this. Okay, okay, cool. All right, so my next one is the Skirrid Mountain Inn in Abergavenny, Wales.
Kathryn (25:01)
⁓ a mountain inn. Ooh, very Stephen King.
Gina (25:03)
A mountain inn, yes. And it is, it's like,
it's right by a mountain. The area surrounding this place, this pub, is fucking stunning. We'll put some pictures in the video, because I want to show people. Wales is just gorgeous. I love Wales. Yes, so this is one of a few different pubs that claims to be the oldest in Wales. The thing is, we don't actually know how old it is, because it's that old.
Kathryn (25:15)
Yeah, we'll share pictures and everything and then social.
Gina (25:29)
There are documents that mention it from the 1100s, so at least that old, probably. I'm not gonna argue with it, but when you get that far back in time, record keeping wasn't the best, so I don't know, old. And this place is so old that there's nothing we can definitively prove about it, but there are legends. One story goes that it was the site of a massacre after an English nobleman's uncle was killed by a Welsh nobleman. If you've seen or read Game of Thrones, it's very Red Wedding energy. Apparently the Englishman invited three of the Welsh noblemen to have dinner with him at the inn, and while they were eating, distracted by the food with their guards down, he ordered his men to kill all of them.
Kathryn (26:17)
That's a lot. Yeah.
Gina (26:18)
Very dastardly, yeah.
Another legend states that the inn was used as a site for capital punishment for thieves and highwaymen. And at one point that 1100, sorry, that 182 men were executed here. It's thought that this act in particular has led to a lot of the hauntings because this is dark. I'm sorry, I know you hate neck shit. When they were hanging these guys, there was no trap door for them to like fall down into to snap their neck and kind of give them a quicker death. They were literally just hung until they suffocated. Which is obviously a lot of negative energy and apparently you can still see the rope marks in the beams in the ceiling. Yeah, dark. As far as hauntings go, there's a fucking lot.
Kathryn (27:00)
Ooh, weird, yeah.
Gina (27:07)
Apparently the pub's owner claims to lose 10 to 15 glasses per week because they just fly off the shelves and smash. Per week, yeah.
Kathryn (27:15)
What? That's a huge overhead cost. 10 to what? 10 to 12? Is that what you said?
Gina (27:20)
Right? Like imagine that on - 10 to 15.
Kathryn (27:26)
Hold on, let me get my calculator. How much is that per year? What are we looking at? 15 times 52 is 780. That's a lot.
Gina (27:28)
Per year, what are we looking at? What's 15 times 52?
That's a line item. That's a fucking line item on their little on their little book keeping apparatus. Isn't that fucking wild? Yeah.
Kathryn (27:44)
my god.
I hope they're getting cheap ass glasses. my gosh. That's a lot.
Gina (27:49)
Me too. I doubt it, but me too. Guests who go to the pub also report feelings of pressure on their neck, like a noose is being tightened, which yeah, that's kind of gnarly. there's one story, this I actually fucking loved, I thought this was so funny. There's one story about a guest, because you can stay the night there, it's like a pub slash hotel type thing.
Kathryn (27:59)
Ooh.
Yeah.
Gina (28:12)
He couldn't get to sleep all night because a ghost was in his bathroom spinning the toilet paper roll over and over and like it made a squeaking sound. Isn't that so funny?
Kathryn (28:24)
god, that's so obnoxious, that's hilarious.
That's funny. What a strange... Sorry, I'm like just daydreaming now. Can you imagine this ancient ghost like, what in the world is this contraption? Like just trying to figure out like how did they come up with this? Yeah. Like not, they wouldn't even know what toilet paper was in the first place, let alone the roll. Yeah, he's like, oh.
Gina (28:30)
I know. I didn't think about that, that's so funny. This is amazing! These geniuses. He just thinks it's for entertainment.
Kathryn (28:56)
So soft and fluffy. It's just a little pillow. He's like trying to get comfortable on it.
Gina (29:02)
Or maybe it's a ghost cat, because you know how cats like to do that with toilet paper rolls? Yeah, maybe it's that.
Kathryn (29:05)
Yeah!
Gosh, wait, that's so cute.
Gina (29:09)
I have another thing that I think you're gonna like. So there's a ghost of a woman at this place name was Fanny Price. She was a bartender and a landlady who died there in the 17th century. And apparently you can still see her walking the halls, making sure everything is in tip-top shape for her guests. So very Hotel Emma vibes.
Kathryn (29:09)
That's a nice one. I like that one. Okay, tell me.
That's sweet.
Yeah, I like that.
Gina (29:31)
Mm-hmm. And this is kind of my last piece about the Skirrid Mountain Inn. And this also made me laugh. Back in the early 2000s, the bar went up for sale. And apparently, the ghosts were fucking pissed off about this. So whenever a prospective buyer would come to see it and take a tour or whatever, hauntings would increase in frequency and glasses would get thrown at the buyers. Yep.
Kathryn (29:58)
That doesn't surprise me. I've heard that in like places that have hauntings. Any transitional situation can activate it, but that's kind of funny that they're straight up. Yeah, they're straight up like guarding the perimeter. Yeah. That's funny.
Gina (30:07)
Just think it's so funny. Boo. Yeah, so that's the Skirrid Mountain Inn.
Kathryn (30:15)
Okay, can you spell that first word for me? What is that?
Gina (30:19)
Yes.
Good point. So it's S-K-I.
Kathryn (30:23)
already wrong. ⁓ super wrong. What is this word?
Okay. S-K-I.
Gina (30:29)
R R I D. It's also known as just the Skirrid Inn. I think Mountain technically isn't in the name, but it's in, it's right by the Skirrid Mountain. So that's why it's called that.
Kathryn (30:31)
Okay, if you say so.
Okay.
Okay, gotcha, gotcha. Okay, thank you.
Gina (30:42)
You're like, this makes no difference to me. Cool.
Kathryn (30:44)
It really doesn't. I will be calling it the Mountain Inn when we rank.
But I was like, I wrote down scared at Mountain Inn and I was like, that can't be what she's saying. I had to check. It is to me. Yeah, it is to me.
Gina (30:53)
I might as well. I did check to see if Skirrid means anything in Welsh, like if we could translate it into English and it didn't come back with anything. So I think it's just, it's a secret for the Welsh guys.
Kathryn (31:01)
smart. I wonder, yeah. It's interesting, because mountains... Like, who names mountains?
Gina (31:12)
The people who discovered them, I think. Because I remember being a kid and being convinced I would get to name a mountain someday. So that's my only.
Kathryn (31:14)
Yeah. So. That's so specific. That's such a specific assumption.
Gina (31:24)
There's gotta be a lot.
Bobby Mackey’s Music World in Kentucky
Kathryn (31:25)
Yeah, that's true. Yeah, because I know...
I know a lot of them are named for people, to your point, like if, you know, whoever summits it first or whatever the fuck. I don't know. I'm just trying to figure out what this word is. I'm like hyper fixated on this word now. It's strange that we don't know what it is. Or maybe it's not that strange at all. It's just something I'm focusing on. I don't know why. All right. Let's move along. Okay. So my final is Bobby Mackey's Music World and
Gina (31:46)
Ugh.
Kathryn (31:55)
This one was weird. I had a strange experience while researching this. It took me on kind of a roller coaster. So I'll just jump right in. Okay. So Bobby Mackey's is a country music nightclub, AKA Honky Tonk for those not in the area. And it was originally in Wilder, Kentucky, like literally nestled into this hillside. The building was purchased by country music artist, Bobby Mackey who I was unaware of. I'm so sorry. And when I tried to Google him, the result that kept coming up is the song Bobby McGee, which I kind of thought was funny. But yeah, very close. It's pretty much the same if you mumble, which I do. So that's probably where my computer was getting that from. Anyway, so he bought the bar, well, bought the building and turned it into a bar in 1978. But rumor has it that before
Gina (32:32)
So close.
Kathryn (32:52)
Bobby Mackey's was Bobby Mackey's. It operated as a slaughterhouse and meat packing plant. In the basement of the building is a well that is said to have been a drainage pipe for the cattle blood during the slaughtering process. And according to legend, yes, your face is exactly my thoughts as well. According to legend, after the slaughterhouse shut down, a group of local occultists would meet in the basement and use the well as a portal to contact the dead, practice spells, and even perform animal and human sacrifices to manifest the power of Satan. We're bringing him back, everyone. Yeah, we're bringing back the Satan discussion. So ever since it became Bobby Mackey's Music World, it's been known to house the portal to hell.
Gina (33:32)
I was into that until you got to the sacrifices.
Kathryn (33:46)
Pause for taking notes. I know, I saw you shift. So obviously people claim that this has led to a huge amount of paranormal activity, which is to be expected when you're at Hell's Mouth. One aberration that people claim to see is that of former dancer named Johanna. Johanna.
Gina (33:49)
Literally, I was like, portal to hell.
Kathryn (34:09)
apparently got pregnant outside of marriage, which was a big no-no back in the day. think this was around, shoot, I didn't write down the year of Johanna's story, but I think hers was around the 20s, around like prohibition era, I think. Yeah, it was somewhere around then. So this, of course, enraged her father. So he ended up murdering Johanna's lover, who was a singer at the bar. And Johanna was horribly distraught by this, so she ended up dying by suicide shortly thereafter.
Gina (34:21)
⁓ okay, yeah.
Kathryn (34:38)
And it said that Johanna's spirit is often seen in a back corner of the bar in an area that used to be her dressing room. So it said that she's still in her dressing room kind of mourning the loss of her lover. ⁓ There's a lot of other claims as far as just general haunting. You know, people experience kind of dark energy, a lot of shadows in every corner of the room.
Gina (34:50)
Hmm.
Kathryn (35:03)
it's the portal to hell, right? Just a lot of darkness, a lot of demonic activity of various sorts. Unfortunately for paranormal enthusiasts, are no public records that have ever been found to support the claim that Bobby Mackey's was once a slaughterhouse or that occultists were there. And the Johanna story can't really be authenticated. And these stories didn't really start until the 1980s, which is after Bobby Mackey bought the bar. So a lot of people suspect that this is just a really fantastic and effective marketing strategy, which I agree with because I am talking about it. And it's on my list of three top three bars I want to go to. So it's fine with me. Points for creativity.
Gina (35:37)
Hmm.
That's fair.
Kathryn (35:52)
The original location in Wilder, Kentucky, the one we were just talking about, was demolished at the end of last year. So rumor has it that, you know, the fact that these stories were just a marketing ploy was a way to keep people safe and that there really was a mouth to hell in Bobby Mackey's and they destroyed it so that it can never be accessed again. Other people say they just had foundational and structural issues that were too expensive to repair.
They did rebuild the bar in another location. Bobby Mackey's Music World is now in Union, Kentucky. And I think they are reopened. I think they're officially open as of the recording of this episode. And it just remains to be seen whether the portal to hell was transferred along with them. So the original location is no longer there. You can, of course, still visit it. It's just no longer. I mean, it's just rubble.
But yeah, we don't know if they just transported the access to Satan to the new location, but I would personally love to go and find out.
Gina (37:00)
I love that. I 100 % believe there's a hell mouth there. That's way more interesting than.
Kathryn (37:04)
I, as I was researching, I was like, this is a fake ass story. This isn't really the, you know, whatever, portal to hell, blah, blah. But then the more I kept going, I was like, or is that what they want me to think?
Gina (37:19)
Yeah. Is that the marketing strategy? That they want you to think it's a marketing strategy?
Kathryn (37:22)
Yeah. You're just trying to protect me so I can't accidentally bring upon the end of days? Give me a break.
Gina (37:29)
Alright,
Angel from Buffy, I can make my own fucking choices.
Kathryn (37:32)
Man I stepped right into that
one. I'm so upset. We where are you in that show right now?
Gina (37:38)
Okay, we took a little bit of a break. we're like, okay. like beginning a season four. She just got to college.
Kathryn (37:40)
So did we, but then I told... Go ahead, go ahead.
Okay, good. We're at beginning of season five because we took a break and I told Phil we got to keep going because I have to stay ahead of Gina in case she has questions. Because I haven't, whenever I rewatch I usually just do one through three. I don't usually go much further. So like four, like five I remember because it's infamous. You'll definitely have a lot of questions about five, but just trust the process. But literally I couldn't tell you anything about season six. Like I got, I don't know. So anyway, yeah.
Gina (37:54)
Ha ha!
Mm.
Okay.
Okay.
Yeah, on a little break, we're watching the marvelous Mrs. Maisel at the moment. Have you seen Mrs. Maisel? can't remember.
Kathryn (38:20)
Yeah, I did. I loved that show. I watched the first season when it first came out and then I think I started the second season but that was when I think I think I was in the process of moving from Chicago to here. There's just a lot going on and I didn't have a lot of TV time and then I just never picked it back up again. Yeah, that's a good show. I love that show.
Gina (38:34)
Mmm.
my God, it's, yeah, it's fucking great. This is, we can edit this part out, but Gina to Kathryn, you would fucking love the arc of that show. Because it has female characters that aren't good. Like it gives women permission to be complex and pieces of shit and also good people at the same time. And it's just, I love it. It's very, very good.
Kathryn (38:48)
Mm.
Yeah. Yep.
Yeah, yeah, I loved the first season. I loved it. But I just, it just got lost on my radar. I still recommend it to people all the time. I just never finished it. Yeah. Yeah, I need to get back into it.
Gina (39:12)
Mm, yeah, yeah. I fucking love that show. Okay, so White Horse Lafitte's Bobby Mackey's. All right, okay. Portal to Hell, got it.
The Mermaid Inn in England
Are you ready for my last one? All right, the last one on my list is The Mermaid Inn in Rye, also in England, also old as fuck. I knew that you would like The Mermaid name. I was looking forward to that.
Kathryn (39:22)
Yes.
Yes, I think so.
Can I... this just popped in my head as a result of Mermaid Inn. In addition to guessing the order of the other persons, can we also rank the other persons for ourselves? Like, can I rank your bars for how I want to, how much I want to go to them?
Gina (39:57)
That's a great idea. Yes, let's do that. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, yeah, let's do that. Sweet. Okay, cool. So the Mermaid Inn was originally established in the 1100s. Again, I'm going real old school today. And while the inn itself has been rebuilt since then, its sellers still date back to 1156 and even the rebuilt portions were rebuilt in like the 1420s.
Kathryn (39:59)
because I want Mermaid Inn on my list now.
Yeah.
Mm.
Gina (40:26)
very, very incredibly old.
Kathryn (40:28)
Brand new.
Gina (40:29)
Yeah, brand fucking new.
Throughout its lifespan, it's been a popular hangout for sailors coming into the nearby ports. So not quite pirates, but similar vibes. You know how I like some seafaring.
Kathryn (40:39)
Yeah, sailors are just like pretty boy pirates. Let's be real. Yeah. Have a little fun while you're out. Yeah.
Gina (40:44)
They honestly are. Get a life. Steal some shit. Have a little fun.
Haven't you ever just wanted to set off a cannon at a fortified town? You know?
Kathryn (40:54)
Yeah, just steal some jewels. Wreak havoc among, yeah, yeah, just girly things.
Gina (40:57)
It's just girl stuff, I don't know. Yeah.
It's also one of the places where Catholic priests used to hide out while they were being persecuted. And apparently it was even visited by Queen Elizabeth I during her reign. But the time period that I want to hone in on is the 1700s when it was a hot spot for smugglers, particularly the Hockhurst gang.
Kathryn (41:08)
Hmm.
Ooh, that's fun.
Gina (41:25)
So these guys, despite my huge smile, they were very bad. They were evil people. They were violent. They were were also very good at their jobs, in part because the Mermaid Inn was a bit of a smuggler's paradise. There are quite a few secret tunnels in the bar. I know you know how I feel about secret tunnels. I fucking love them. And it made it ideal for people who dealt with contraband.
Kathryn (41:46)
Yeah.
Gina (41:51)
One of these tunnels, I found this so fascinating. You go underneath the pub, there's this secret tunnel and it had a cupboard at the end of it, which made it look like just a normal random storage room. But the cupboard rotated and actually functioned as a secret exit if they needed to make a quick getaway. Like I said though, these guys were definitely.
Kathryn (42:10)
for you.
Gina (42:14)
Dickheads, apparently one of the gang members girlfriends started to learn a little bit too much about their operations at the Inn. So the gang murdered her and you can still see her ghost at the pub to this day. But that is not the only haunting at the Mermaid Inn. The Inn's most famous haunting is tied specifically to room 16, AKA the Elizabethan bedchamber.
Kathryn (42:24)
Hmm.
Gina (42:40)
which was said to have been the site of a duel hundreds and hundreds of years ago, and apparently the fighting continues even now. As the story goes, two men fought their way across a few different rooms before one was ultimately stabbed in room 16 and thrown down a secret staircase, landing, as fate would have it, in what is now the bar. Which is interesting.
Kathryn (43:03)
Okay...
yeah.
Gina (43:05)
Guests staying in this room have reported seeing swords clashing in the shadows, and one guest even managed to catch it on camera. I was not able to find this video online, which I am fucking heartbroken about. So if anyone listening to this has it or has a video of something like this at the Mermaid Inn, send it to us because I need to see this so badly. You'll get a million stickers and a very big hug if you want one. Anyway, at one point,
Kathryn (43:17)
⁓ bummer.
Yeah.
Gina (43:33)
An employee was tending to the fireplace in this room when all of the sudden the bottles on a shelf at the other end of the room mysteriously just fell off, just smashed the floor apropos of nothing. And apparently he was so shaken by this that he resigned immediately.
Kathryn (43:45)
Oh my God.
You know that's just real when people quit on the spot. Yeah. Yeah.
Gina (43:55)
Like you couldn't even fucking pay me to be here.
Room 16 is not the only room that's said to be haunted though. The inn's website, which I encourage everyone to visit, has additional accounts of hauntings reported by their guests, which spans six additional rooms across the pub. I think in total there's something like 30 to 35 rooms. So it's like a decent chunk of them are haunted.
These reports range from extreme and unpredictable temperature fluctuations to orbs of light floating in rooms, also physical encounters like being kicked in the back. And this I found was very interesting. There are reports of guests leaving their clothes out overnight, like you know how when you're staying in a hotel room and you'll just throw your clothes on the chair or whatever? And when they wake up in the morning, their clothes are wet…like someone has washed them for them.
Kathryn (44:46)
What?
Okay, that's not what I thought you were going to say. That's weird.
Gina (44:51)
Weird. Yeah. Uh huh. Uh, and in the early 2000s, a group of employees brought in a medium to perform a seance. I think it was actually in room 16. And as the medium contacted a spirit, he let everyone know like, Hey, my face might change while I'm doing this. And apparently the employees literally saw his face change once they made contact with the spirit. And I think it was a group of five employees.
Kathryn (44:54)
Okay.
Mm.
Gina (45:18)
They all attest to seeing this. They all saw it happen. At one point, the medium pointed out where in the room a spirit was, and then he invited the employees to like, you can run your hand across this shadow if you want to touch the spirit or whatever, it's okay. And when the employees got up and did it, they watched one by one as their arms disappeared as they passed through that area.
Kathryn (45:21)
⁓
Gina (45:43)
Yeah, so that's The Mermaid Inn!
Kathryn (45:43)
That's weird.
that's spooky.
Gina (45:48)
I know, right?
Kathryn (45:49)
this is hard. Okay. It is, but I'm not ready. This is hard. I thought this was gonna be easier. Well, it's also like, we both wanna go to all these places. It's hard to rank them. I have to remember what mine are.
Final rankings
Gina (45:51)
I know, okay, is it guessing time?
I know.
That's the thing. Yeah.
Kathryn (46:05)
Okay, reading mine out loud, I did decide. Okay, let me write down mine just so I don't accidentally get it wrong.
Gina (46:14)
Okay.
Kathryn (46:15)
and then I'm gonna write down yours.
Gina (46:16)
Okay, and we're guessing, like I'm guessing you're ranking what you want to go to and then also I'm writing down what my order would be and we're guessing both of them. Yes. Yeah, okay.
Kathryn (46:25)
of mine. Yeah.
Yeah. Like, and then you can... Yeah, so you're guessing what my order of mine would be, and then you're telling me what your order of mine would be. Yeah. I just wanted to make sure that is what you said. I just wanted to make sure we were on same page.
Gina (46:35)
Yes, that's a much better way to put it. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I kept having to remind myself that just because I'm ranking something number three doesn't mean I don't want to go there. I want to desperately go to all of these places. Yeah.
Kathryn (46:49)
It's still the third highest. Right, exactly.
It's still the third highest on your entire list of all the haunted bars in the world that we know of, I should say. Yeah. Yeah.
Gina (46:54)
Yeah. Yeah, for context, I had a list of like 10 places. So this is just the top
three. Being number three is not bad.
Kathryn (47:04)
I had two and then Gina told me about one. I know, I just, I know what I want when it comes to this. And also on that note, if you listening have other ones that you think should be on this list, please send it to us because there are so many and we know there are so many in places we've never even heard of that we would love for you to tell us about so we can go.
Gina (47:07)
you
Yeah.
Kathryn (47:30)
Okay, so who wants to go first? I'm panicking I kind of want to go first because I'm going to, I'm like not going to be able to pay attention to you. I'm going to be like second guessing mine the whole time. Okay, so I put them out of order. My guess for your order is number one, the mermaid inn. Number two,
Gina (47:34)
You go first.
Okay.
Kathryn (47:49)
with the bliby blu scared mountain in and number three the ancient rams in
Gina (47:56)
Are we telling each other right away? Okay, okay. You got number one correct. Mermaid Inn 100%. Yes, that is my number one. Smugglers, the tunnels, I want it, I want it all. I actually put the Ancient Ram Inn as number two.
Kathryn (47:57)
Go ahead and tell me. Yeah, go ahead and tell me.
Yes, it's the smugglers. Yep, the tunnels. Yep. Okay.
That's surprising for me! That's spooky!
Gina (48:14)
So I wrote down my reason in my little notes doc. It says, because I want to be brave. And I also, because I picture myself going to these places with you, if you were there, I think I would feel much safer.
Kathryn (48:17)
yet.
Okay, you did that, I put that in my notes. I did put that in my notes. Okay, wow, I'm proud of you.
Yeah.
that makes me feel good. You would be safe with me, I promise.
Gina (48:33)
And then Skirrid Mountain Inn, I still really wanna go. it's the whole, it's the feeling of your neck being like pressure on your neck. That bit freaks me out a little bit too much. So that's number three.
Kathryn (48:40)
Yeah. Yeah.
Yes. Actually forgot about that. So let me real quick switch mine up a little bit. I thought that was I thought that was at the mermaid in. That was at the OK. All right. Let me OK. Do you want me to say just say mine and then go OK. So with that additional detail.
Gina (48:49)
Hahaha!
Uh-uh, scared mountain in. That's where the hangings were, yeah.
I wonder if we have the same list. Yeah, tell me what yours is. ⁓
Kathryn (49:06)
My list, Ancient Rams is first, 100%. Mermaid Inn is second, and then The Mountain Inn is third, because I don't like the next thing, yeah.
Gina (49:09)
Okay. Okay. Yeah. I can see that, yeah. We're pretty close though.
Kathryn (49:19)
OK, yeah, so our second two were just switched. Yeah, they were originally totally opposite. Yes, I do.
Gina (49:23)
Okay, do you want to hear what I'm guessing for you?
I think number one is Lafitte's because you fucking love New Orleans and I think we would have so much fun there. I think number two is Bobby Mackey's because I don't think you can resist a hell mouth. And I think number three is the white horse because I think the mirror ghosts in particular, I think that would spook you and make you a little bit scared.
Kathryn (49:30)
Okay.
I do love New Orleans.
Correct. Yeah, correct. I to go to the, obviously we don't have to say this. just, feel like I need to, like it's a list of top three. That's very high, but.
Gina (49:47)
Yes, yay!
Kathryn (49:56)
When I was researching Bobby Mackey's, I White Horse was above it for a while because I was like Bobby Mackey's isn't really haunted. And then the more the deeper I got, I was like, nah, I got to go see for myself. Like that makes me want to go even more. part of the reason I was struggling with White Horse and Bobby Mackey's is because I would want Bobby Mackey's would be probably number one if it was the original location.
Gina (50:08)
Yeah.
Yep,
fair.
Kathryn (50:19)
You know
what I mean? Like, I would love to go to the site of the original location to check it out. Yeah. But yes, correct.
Gina (50:25)
Yes, same. ⁓ my, like, so my
ranking of yours, the one that you did, is the exact same that I guessed. Because Lafitte's Pirates, I need to go there. I also love New Orleans. Bobby Mackey's, yes, as long as we go to the original site, like you said. White Horse, the mirror thing also freaks me out.
Kathryn (50:34)
Okay, yes.
Yeah. But at the same time, kind of, when we go, I kind of want to see a mirror ghost. Because that would be validating for my fear. That would validate me. But I would be very scared. Yes. I knew Lafitte's was going to be number one on mine. that was, we talked about that though, because we, we've struggled with this ever since learning about Lafitte's because
Gina (50:49)
Well, we have to try. Yeah. Because once it happens, it happens and then you're fine. Probably.
Yeah, easily.
Kathryn (51:09)
When we were down there, the only reason we didn't go is because we were just wandering aimlessly. We had no plan. And Gina asked me specifically, well, why didn't we go? Like, how did we not get there? And I said, because of based on where our hotel was, when we got onto Bourbon Street, we turned left instead of right. And that is the only reason we didn't make it there. Like, it was literally like if we had gone right for like two blocks, we would have ended up there accidentally. But we didn't. We turned left and said and
as fate would have it, had a great time. So no regrets, but we have to go again. Yeah, that was the most perfect trip.
Gina (51:41)
I regret nothing. Yes, exactly same page.
I will never say no to a reason to go back to New Orleans ever.
Kathryn (51:50)
for sure. We... I don't love going to the same place twice just because my travel list is so long, but going back to New Orleans is at the top of my list because we have to bring the guys. I feel like Phil will be miserable weather-wise, but he would love it as far as vibes. I just...
Gina (52:00)
Yeah.
Tom would be so
sad if we went without him. He would love it there.
Kathryn (52:10)
He's 100 % invited. Don't worry. Yeah, yeah, we I feel like the four of us would just have the best time.
Gina (52:13)
Hehehehehe
my god, we would. Yeah. Love New Orleans.
Kathryn (52:20)
Yeah, me too. Cool. Yeah, that was fun.
Gina (52:25)
Well, that does it. That's our first little bucket list episode. Maybe we'll do this again. I think this was really fun.
Kathryn (52:29)
Yeah, let
us know what you think. I think we can always make our list longer if you want us to include bars that would be lower on the list. It's hard when you're super excited to go to all of them. It's not really that hard. It's actually easy to enjoy things. it made it harder to rank, or guess the ranking, because it's kind of like, I don't know. They're all up there. So yeah.
Gina (52:40)
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, it's a toss up. And this could it could also
depend on my mood that day, you know.
Kathryn (52:58)
That's what I was thinking. like, especially with yours, my top two for yours I'm like between like two and three, like one is definitely the ram one, the ancient ram inn but the other two, I'm like, I'll just go wherever you want me to go. But yeah, that was fun. Send us your bars. Send us the bars that you want us to go to.
Gina (53:11)
Mm-hmm.
That was fun. Yes. Or send
us your bucket list. Tell us what's on your list of bars that you want to go to. I want to research some of those.
Kathryn (53:28)
Yeah, send them to, what's our email? iscreamyouscreampod at gmail.com.
Gina (53:32)
Yes, we haven't said that out loud for a while, but yeah.
Kathryn (53:35)
No, I don't and I suspect that might be the reason no one's sending us anything.
Gina (53:39)
Well, it's always in the show notes if you guys need it. There's also a form you can fill out if you don't want to write a whole ass email. We get it.
Kathryn (53:42)
Yeah, peeve.
I say that because we have had people send us things on Instagram, which is perfectly fine, but I don't always see them. I'm sorry. yeah, send things to our email, iscreamyouscreampod at gmail.com. We will see those 100%. Cool.
Gina (53:59)
Yeah.
All right, well, until next time, little spoons, keep it cool.
Kathryn (54:05)
Keep it creepy!
Gina (54:06)
Huzzah!
